Helios™ (SR) Solar ReflectiveMILSPRAY Helios™ (SR) Solar Reflective was developed by our NJ-based Product Development as a solution to a problem that was compromising our military's mission in Iraq. Many light armored vehicles (LAV) and Auxiliary Ground Equipment (AGE) were originally designed to have a/c systems capable of reducing interior cabin temperatures by 30 degrees. In the desert, vehicle surface temperatures were regularly surpassing 140F. With the 30 degree range of the existing A/C systems, interior cabin temperatures were still in the 110 degree range. As a result of this excessive heat, Military personnel were unable to complete the longer daytime desert missions required of them. Missions were cut short and the need to address the temperature problem became paramount. MILSPRAY worked around the clock to develop a coating that would reduce heat transfer and provide a cooler operating environment for the soldier. Our objective was to reduce the surface temperature by 25F so that the interior cabin temperature would then be 115F. With the 30F degree capability of the existing a/c system, interior cabin temperature would be 85F. This would permit completion of day time desert missions. Nano and micro technologies, as well as ceramics, plastics, and metal material technologies were evaluated and tested. The end result was a micro barrier technology that effectively reduced heat transfer by 40 degrees. The technology developed combines thermal transfer reduction and solar reflective technologies to accomplish what no other material has. MILSPRAY Helios™ (SR) is a highly engineered and affordable means of reducing temperatures in vehicles and buildings or reducing the effect of heat on radar systems and other systems sensitive to heat gain. Helios™ (SR) is used as an intermediate coat between the primer and topcoat. Helios™ (SR) can also be formulated in any color and as a topcoat material. Helios™ (TS) Thermal SuppressiveHelios™ (TS) is a Helios™ formula variant that was discovered during the development of the solar reflective version of the material. During initial testing it was discovered that changing the concentration of one of the key formula components and modifying the application process, yielded a coating with superior thermal suppressive qualities. The benefits to the U.S. military were quickly realized. If the heat signature of a tactical vehicle, light armored vehicle, or sniper could be substantially suppressed, they would be less likely to be a target of heat seeking weapons systems. They would also be able to move in a more stealth-like manner and greatly reduce TTR (Time to Recognition). Helios™ is currently available for sale to the U.S. military only and is a component of 2008 Defense Appropriation known as "Project Kryptolite- Field Deployable Multifunctional Stealth Coating."
